If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.

Remain indoors if possible. Cover all exposed skin and limit time outside if you must go out. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves. Cover outdoor faucets. To prevent water pipes from freezing wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Bring pets indoors, or ensure that they have warm, dry shelter. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
