Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force. This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected. At 9 p.m., Tropical Storm Maliksi was estimated to be about 310 kilometres west-southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.8 degrees north 111.6 degrees east) and is forecast to be slow-moving at first, and then move northwards later at about 15 kilometres per hour, edging closer to the western coast of Guangdong. Maliksi was slow-moving in the past few hours. It is expected to move north and make landfall at the coast of western Guangdong early tomorrow morning. It will then move into inland areas. The extensive intense rainbands to its south will gradually affect the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. There will be heavy showers and strong winds over the regions. There will be occasional gale winds on high ground tomorrow. It is expected that the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3, will remain in force at least until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Unless Maliksi intensifies rapidly or adopts a track closer to Hong Kong, the chance of issuing higher tropical cyclone warning signals will be rather low. Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
