At 541 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and frequent lightning. Waterspouts are possible. This thunderstorm was located over western Puerto Rico, moving west-southwest at 15 knots into the coastal waters and Mona Passage.

At 541 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and frequent lightning. Waterspouts are possible. This thunderstorm was located over western Puerto Rico, moving west-southwest at 15 knots into the coastal waters and Mona Passage.

Instrucciones:

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Intense lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. Report severe weather to the Coast Guard or nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service forecast office.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 532 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
    • Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
    • Some locations that will experience flooding include, Anasco, Las Marias, Mayaguez, Hormigueros, La Playa and Espino.
