AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF MODERATE RAINFALL IS ONGOING ACROSS SOUTHEAST ALASKA. THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL ARRIVED OVERNIGHT SUNDAY NIGHT AND DROPPED AROUND 1 TO 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN ACROSS THE PANHANDLE. SHOWERS ARE ONGOING ACROSS MOST OF THE PANHANDLE CURRENTLY, BUT ANOTHER ROUND OF MODERATE RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE MONDAY NIGHT BEFORE LIGHTER RAIN SHOWERS RESUME ON TUESDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING APPEAR TO BE AS HIGH AS 1.5 INCHES ACROSS PARTS OF THE NORTH. LESSER AMOUNTS UP TO 0.75 INCHES ARE FORECAST BY TUESDAY MORNING FOR SOUTHERN AREAS. RAINFALL RATES ARE THEN EXPECTED TO DIMINISH INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. RAINFALL RATES SUCH AS THIS ARE CONSIDERED NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF THE YEAR AND ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE EXCESSIVE. THIS IS, HOWEVER, THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT RAINY PERIOD OF THE FALL SEASON AND MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO SOME. RIVERS, CREEKS, AND STREAMS WILL RESPOND TO THIS MUCH RAINFALL, WITH MORE FLASHY STREAMS RESPONDING THE MOST WITH TONIGHT'S RAINFALL. AT THIS TIME, NO FLOODING IS EXPECTED. SOME WINDY CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY WITH GUSTS POSSIBLY REACHING 35 MPH IN WINDY LOW ELEVATION LOCATIONS. HIGHER ELEVATIONS AND MARINE AREAS COULD SEE GUSTS TO 45 MPH AT TIMES. KEEP UP WITH CURRENT CONDITIONS AND FORECAST UPDATES DURING THIS EVENT AT WEATHER.GOV/JUNEAU.
