Tanana, Ruby, and Galena
As of Monday evening the Yukon River breakup was located about 60 miles below Tanana. A long stretch of heavy, bank to bank ice run was noted from the breakup front to 20 miles upstream of Tanana. The river through this stretch was moving steadily with water levels remaining within the banks. Downstream from the breakup front, numerous large pressure ridges and shifted ice were observed to Ruby. Ice in front of Ruby shifted Monday morning and the tripod at Galena moved a few hundred feet downstream at Galena Monday. Meanwhile downstream of Galena at Bishop Rock the upstream side of the ice remained fairly strong and intact, while open water was present downstream. The River Watch team will fly this section of the Yukon Tuesday and an update is expected later Tuesday or early Wednesday.
