  • WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

  • WHERE: Portions of south central, southwest, and west central Virginia, including the following counties and independent city, in south central Virginia, City of Martinsville and Henry. In southwest Virginia, Carroll, Floyd and Patrick. In west central Virginia, Franklin.

  • WHEN: Until 215 PM EDT.

  • IMPACTS: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 1115 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
    • This includes the following streams and drainages, Big Reed Island Creek, Archies Creek, Anglin Branch, Big Chestnut Creek, Beaver Creek, Ararat River and Bassett Branch. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
    • Some locations that will experience flooding include, Martinsville, Hillsville, Stuart, Woolwine, Spencer, Bassett, Ararat,
