Rainfall is expected to continue across several parts of the country. From 22nd April to 27th April 2026, the rainfall is likely to intensify, with accumulations exceeding 20mm in 24 hours over the Coast, as well as parts of the Northeastern and Southeastern Lowlands. The upcoming rainfall may be accompanied by gusty winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s).
People in all the mentioned areas should remain vigilant for potential floods, flash floods, and poor visibility. Note that flood waters may occur in areas where it has not rained heavily, particularly downstream. To ensure safety residents are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields, not to shelter under trees or near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes and to take precautions while engaging in maritime activities. Strong southerly to southeasterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are expected over the Coast, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
Strong winds may uproot trees, blow off roofs and cause structural damage.
The rainfall exceeding 20mm within 24 hours is expected over parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya between 24th and 30th April 2026. The heaviest rainfall over these regions is likely to be received from Sunday 26th to Tuesday 28th April 2026. The Coast is likely to continue experiencing heavy rainfall of more than 20mm in 24 hours up to 27th April 2026.
