L'image satellite en temps réel combine la lumière visible pendant la journée et le rayonnement infrarouge pendant la nuit. La nuit, l'image n'est pas sombre car le rayonnement infrarouge permet de détecter les différences de température. Malheureusement, les nuages bas et le brouillard sont difficiles à distinguer des températures au sol et peuvent donc être presque invisibles pendant la nuit. Les images des satellites Météosat pour l'Europe sont mises à jour en temps réel toutes les 5 minutes.
