Instructions:

Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

  • WHERE: Portions of northwest Iowa, including the following counties, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola and Sioux, southwest Minnesota, including the following counties, Jackson, Nobles and Rock, and southeast South Dakota, including the following counties, Clay, Davison, Hanson, Hutchinson, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, Turner and Union.

  • WHEN: Until 100 PM CDT Tuesday.

  • IMPACTS: Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Several structures are flooded and some sand bagging operations are continuing. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • At 1257 PM CDT, emergency management reported heavy rain in the warned area due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring. Between 4 and 16 inches of rain have fallen, highest across portions of Turner and Lincoln Counties in South Dakota, as well as Sioux and Lyon Counties in Iowa, where widespread 10 to 16 inches of rain fell.
    • Flooding impacts will continue, but the chance for additional rainfall in the next 2 to 3 days is low.
    • Some locations that will experience flooding include, Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Spencer In Clay County, Sioux Center, Orange City, Sheldon, Spirit Lake, Jackson In Jackson County, Canton, Sibley, Rock Rapids, Hawarden, Beresford, Parker, Lake Vermillion State Recreation Area, Harrisburg, Tea, Rock Valley, Milford and Hull.
