Hivatalos figyelmeztető magyarázatok:

A flood alert has been issued. Due to spring tides, higher than normal tides overnight may lead to flooding of roads and footpaths near the coast. No property flooding is expected. The highest tide level is expected to be at Coast at North Morecambe Bay with the Sandside area at particular risk. Nearby low lying locations may also be affected, from Roosebeck to Carnforth including low lying areas around Ulverston, Greenodd, Haverthwaite, Flookburgh, Grange-over-Sands, Levens, Milnthorpe, Sandside, Arnside and Silverdale between 00:30 AM and 04:30 AM tomorrow morning 22/09/2024. Following this tide, we do not expect further high tides to have any flooding impacts. We have closed flood gates at Arnside promenade, and these will remain closed throughout the high tide cycle (until Sunday 22/09/2024). Be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated by 9:00 AM on 22/09/2024, or as the situation changes.

Information on update: Storms are now largely confined to northwest England and north and west Wales. Even here, these should begin to die out over the next few hours. Showers and thunderstorms continue across parts of northwest England and north and west Wales. While many areas will miss the worst of these showers and storms, where they do occur 20-40 mm could fall in less than an hour, with a small chance of isolated accumulations of 50-60 mm over the course of a few hours. In addition, hail and frequent lightning may accompany the most intense storms, especially at first.

What should I do?

Check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.

Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.

People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.

Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area. For further details see https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings
