New Wind Compass

Setting direction: Our new Wind Compass is part of our wind animation and shows the wind speed distribution from various weather models. Thereby, users get a much more reliable idea of the (possible lack of) reliability of the wind forecasts in a particular place.

A special new extension of our wind animation is now available - the wind compass.

You can activate the wind compass by left-clicking on the wind animation map. In the selection box, click "Wind compass" to see the wind direction calculated by all the available weather models for the chosen time step. This new function helps to detect the main wind direction immediately and to see the likelihood of the wind direction forecast being more or less accurate, or influenced by local topography. The closer the individual model forecasts, the higher the likelihood of the forecast data being accurate.

The wind compass is a unique function: It also shows the wind speed as forecast by different models, both in size and numbers. It is also available on our mobile website.

The wind compass function will be equally appreciated by sailors, paragliders, pilots, hikers, mountaineers, meteorologists, and all other users who need to make important decisions based on wind forecasts.

You can also consult the model-specific wind animation maps by selecting the weather model in the lower right corner of the maps interface.

We hope this extension helps you interpret the wind forecast better, and we appreciate your feedback.
