Weather Maps innovations - better than ever

Aviation maps and cross sections are now migrated to our Weather Maps. We will therefore stop supporting our legacy maps at the end of May 2022.

We announced in February 2021 that we are constantly developing our Weather Maps and plan to remove the legacy maps once all previous features are migrated. In the last update, we highlighted further advantages of our worldwide unique Weather Maps, which cover every point on Earth. They show an unique range of weather variables, enable unique views like zooming, multi-layering, playback, animation, and have unique display detail, beauty and speed.

During the last months, we have completed the following maps features:

Cross-sections

Our dynamical cross-sections show a vertical cut through the atmosphere. The cross-sections can be created directly on different Weather Maps by clicking on the map and selecting „Start Cross-section“. You can then draw your path and the resulting cross-section shows temperature, humidity and clouds, wind, precipitation, CAT as well as icing.

Cross-sections can be used for travel and flight planning, surface monitoring or many other special use-cases.

METAR maps

The METAR maps became available in the past weeks. METAR is a format of reporting weather information predominantly in the context of aviation. Our map visualizes each report on the map and enables you to get an overview of available reports and to click easily through them. When clicking on one report, a separate window opens that shows the weather information.
Our METAR data are updated every 5 minutes and available for civil and military airports. Furthermore, specific METAR maps for clouds, visibility and wind are included in our maps interface.

Weather warnings

The Weather warnings availability on the meteoblue website has been extended over the last weeks and we have also launched a global warnings map. The warnings map shows the weather warnings issued by more than 100 national weather services - at one glance.
You can click on each point on the map to check, whether there is an active weather warning for the respective location. If there is a weather warning, you can obtain detailed information directly on the map. The map covers the past 24 as well as the upcoming 48 hours.

We will remove the legacy weather maps by 2022-05-31. We are sure that the new weather maps will significantly improve the maps usage and appreciate your suggestions for remaining improvements.
