CRITICAL FIRE DANGER EXPECTED FRIDAY
- Wind speeds are expected to increase across western areas of New Mexico Friday as a weather system approaches from the west. Southwesterly winds of 15 to 25 mph will be common during the afternoon and evening hours. These winds will combine with very hot and dry conditions resulting in an increase in fire danger across western fire zones including the Gila region along with southwest New Mexico.
The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Friday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
