Sustained easterly winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts 45 to 60 mph are likely through Portage Valley and along Turnagain Arm between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The strongest winds and gusts are expected between 9 pm AKDT Saturday and 4 am AKDT Sunday as a strong frontal system moves toward the coast of Southcentral Alaska. Winds will slowly diminish through the day Sunday as the front moves inland and weakens.
High winds may move loose debris which could cause damage. Travel will be difficult along the Portage Glacier Road and Seward Highway corridor through Turnagain Arm, especially for high profile vehicles. People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution when travelling in areas of high winds.
