The ongoing fire growing pattern will wane some today with critical fire weather conditions focused on the Northeast Highlands, where winds will be strongest this afternoon. However, winds will become strong areawide on Saturday as an upper level trough draws the jetstream over New Mexico with widespread critical fire weather conditions over the northwest half of the fire weather forecast area. Critical-to-extreme fire weather conditions are forecast over the southeast half of the forecast area on Saturday, where wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected with Haines Indices varying from 5 to 6. In the wake of the upper level trough on Sunday, winds will trend weaker while remaining strong enough for one more day of critical fire weather conditions across the Central Highlands.
