Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and strong northwesterly winds are expected during Thursday and Friday. Areas likely to be affected include the King Island, North West Coast, Central North, North East, Midlands and Upper Derwent Valley forecast districts and parts of the East Coast and South East forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

For KING ISLAND and WESTERN TASMANIA: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h are likely from early Friday morning. DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS ABOVE 125 km/h are a small risk with shower and thunderstorm activity in the early morning on Friday. For NORTHERN TASMANIA and the FURNEAUX ISLANDS: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 110 km/h are likely about the northwest coast from around sunrise Friday, extending eastwards during the day. DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS ABOVE 125 km/h are a small risk with shower and thunderstorm activity from early to mid-morning on Friday along the north coast and adjacent inland, including Burnie and Devonport. For the REMAINDER including HOBART and LAUNCESTON: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are likely from around sunrise Friday. For elevated and exposed areas, DAMAGING WINDS may average 70 to 80 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h. Winds across the state are expected to ease below warning thresholds during Friday evening. Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Launceston, St Helens, Swansea, Strahan, New Norfolk, Hobart, Currie, Smithton, Oatlands and Scottsdale.
