Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory. The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force. This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the central to northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 550 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong (near 17.6 degrees north 112.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move north at about 14 kilometres per hour, edging towards the coast of western Guangdong to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary. According to the present forecast, the tropical depression will remain at a distance of over 250 kilometres from Hong Kong tonight (30 May) and tomorrow (31 May) morning. The associated strong winds will not generally affect the territory yet. The Standby Signal, No. 1 will remain in force at least until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. The tropical depression is expected to edge closer to the coast of western Guangdong and the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary gradually during the day tomorrow and may intensify slightly. Depending on the change of its intensity and local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need for issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 during the day tomorrow.
