meteoblue on the racetrack

Our API has multiple applications among our customers. For example, an eager community of historic race car enthusiasts uses meteoblue weather data to plan race events.

The association of Historic Formula 3 race car enthusiasts uses our Free Weather API to show weather on their website, providing information on racing circuits for competitions and planning race events.

Our weather Free Weather API is intended for non-commercial use and can be easily implemented in your automatic system or website. It delivers a reliable weather forecast for the next 7 days for any location worldwide. The forecast data is based on our unique nowcasting and machine learning technologies, achieving a unique publicly documented accuracy.

Accurate weather information is essential to plan race events. Race car drivers check the weather before the event to plan and prepare for the prevailing weather conditions. More importantly, race car drivers rely on meteoblue weather data in decision-making on race day. For example, as this is a race with many competitors, it is essential to choose the best weather-adapted tyre for the race tactically. The first image taken by Jacques Alluchon shows the cars in action.

For professional races like formula 1, precipitation is important in racing since not all tires can be used when rain is on the racetrack. However, the rain tires are much slower on dry tracks because of the more considerable tire tread. So when there is an upcoming precipitation event during the race (e.g. a thunderstorm with heavy precipitation), it is essential to change tires at the right time. Changing tires only one lap too late or too early costs time and must thus be done at the right time to win the race. Therefore, the racers and their team use the rainSPOT, as shown in the screenshot, to analyse possible precipitation events before the race. Since the rainSPOT also shows the predicted rain for the surrounding areas of the selected location, it is a good decision tool. For short-term planning (e.g. defining the exact time to change tires), we recommend using our precipitation radar, which shows real-time precipitation as an animation with 1-minute time steps and a forecast for the next 2 hours in Europe and a 1-hour forecast for the US. The radar can also be implemented websites with our maps widget configured for any place on Earth.

Apart from the free offer, we also offer an extensive range of weather data, available via our Weather API.

We are happy to support racing enthusiasts with our weather data.
