Storm Oskar caused heavy rainfall in parts of Spain and Portugal

A low-pressure system brings storms and rain, which can be followed on the weather maps.

An unusual storm is currently causing heavy rainfall in Spain and Portugal. The low-pressure system affects the Canary Islands, Madeira and Porto Santo. Our weather maps show two clear low-pressure centres over the Atlantic. This is a so-called polar low, which is unusual for this time of year. As such, they are usually expected during winter.

The first weather warnings for the Canary Islands and the Portuguese islands were issued at the beginning of this week because of heavy precipitation and strong winds. That is also why some flights have been cancelled.

meteoblue has access to weather warnings from more than 80 official authorities, shown on our website and apps. You can also receive them by email or push-notification through our weather apps.
