More high resolution

High resolution ICON 2 km model for Central Europe.

We have added a new weather forecast model to our portfolio: ICON-D2, for Central Europe, produced by the German Meteorological Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD), with 2 km spatial resolution. We thank the DWD for providing such valuable additions to the meteorological community!

What weather information does ICON-D2 bring you?

Geographically, this model covers the area from eastern Scotland to central Poland, and from the Pyrenees to Croatia (see first map). With a spatial resolution of 2 km, it is the most accurate model in areas with mountains, lake- or seasides, or local weather phenomena. You can check temperature accuracy with our measurement map. On the temporal perspective, it produces a 27-hour weather forecast segmented into intervals of 1 hour. The computation is updated every 3 hours.

ICON-D2 thereby gives you the most detailed perspective about local weather phenomena in that area: you can access it though our MultiModel and also in our weather maps.

And there is more: We have also included the full 3D spatial data of ICON-D2, so you can check the winds, temperatures, humidity and clouds at any level from the surface up to the altitude of 15 km above the ground in our maps. This can be particularly useful for aviation - professional pilots, drone network operators, hobby glider pilots and paragliders - and many others.

We are grateful for these further enhancements and - as always appreciate your feedback.
