RED FLAG WARNING TODAY FROM 11 AM TO 8 PM MDT ACROSS EASTERN NM AND UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY DUE TO STRONG WINDS, VERY LOW HUMIDITY, AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE

  • Critical conditions are forecast to redevelop Wednesday afternoon east of the central mountain chain and within the Upper Rio Grande Valley. The lowest relative humidity and strongest winds will focus over the northeast highlands and northeast plains.
  • AREA AND TIMING: Northeast and East Central Plains (Zones 104 and 126) and the Central and Northeast Highlands (Zones 123 and 125) from 11 AM until 8 PM.

  • 20 FOOT WINDS: West and northwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, particularly in the central and northeast highlands.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: Minimum values between 6 and 12 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
