The Iowa DNR is issuing an Air Quality Alert for the eastern half of Iowa through 11am Monday. Monitors near Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Clinton, Davenport, and Muscatine are currently reporting hourly fine particulates at concentrations the EPA considers unhealthy, due to smoke. At this level, sensitive groups of people, as well as the general public may experience health effects. Fine particulates near or above EPA health standards are expected to persist and spread westward Monday. The DNR recommends that sensitive people avoid long or intense outdoor activities, and consider rescheduling or moving activities indoors. Sensitive groups include people with respiratory illness or heart disease, older adults, children, teenagers, pregnant women, and outdoor workers. Everyone else should reduce long or intense activities and take more breaks during outdoor activities.
