Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected during Monday and Tuesday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the Northern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

Official warning explanations:

DAMAGING WIND averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h are possible over alpine areas this evening. Above 1900 metres, DAMAGING WINDS may also average 80 to 90 km/h with BLIZZARDS possible. Damaging winds and blizzards are forecast to ease during early Tuesday morning. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. Locations which may be affected include Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Charlotte Pass. 90-100 km/h gusts recorded at Perisher Valley throughout the afternoon, with a peak gust of 104 km/h at 1:49pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
