Official warning explanations:

The rainfall exceeding 20mm within 24 hours is expected over parts of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya between 24th and 30th April 2026. The heaviest rainfall over these regions is likely to be received from Sunday 26th to Tuesday 28th April 2026. The Coast is likely to continue experiencing heavy rainfall of more than 20mm in 24 hours up to 27th April 2026.

Instructions:

Residents in all the mentioned areas should remain vigilant for potential floods, flash floods, and poor visibility. Note that flood waters may occur in areas where it has not rained heavily, particularly downstream. To ensure safety residents are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not to shelter under trees or near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes. People in landslide prone areas especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mt. Kenya and other hilly areas should be vigilant. Updates will be provided promptly if there are any changes.
