  • AFFECTED AREA: Locations near Buffalo Pass, Chinle, Dilkon, Doney Park, Eagar-Springerville, Flagstaff, Forest Lakes, Fredonia, Ganado, Grand Canyon, Heber-Overgaard, Holbrook, Jacob Lake, Kayenta, Kykotsmovi, North Rim, Page, Saint Johns, Shonto, Snowflake-Taylor, Tuba City, Valle, Williams, Window Rock and Winslow. This includes portions of the Apache- Sitgreaves National Forest, Coconino National Forest, Kaibab National Forest, Prescott National Forest and Tonto National Forest.
  • WINDS: Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING FOR MUCH OF WESTERN AND PORTIONS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO DUE TO VERY LOW HUMIDITY, GUSTY WINDS AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE

  • Stronger west to southwest winds will develop this afternoon with deep atmospheric mixing and an extremely dry airmass in place. The main threat areas for the spread of fire will be west of the Continental Divide, the Upper Rio Grande Valley and the Northeast Highlands where winds will be strongest.
  • AREA AND TIMING: Northwest Plateau (Zone 101), West Central Mountains (Zone 105), West Central Basin and Range (Zone 109), Upper Rio Grande Valley and Lower Chama River Valley (Zone 121), and the Northeast Highlands (Zone 123).

  • 20 FOOT WINDS: West to southwest at 20 to 25 mph with occasional gusts up to 35 mph.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: 5 to 12 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
