RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/ THIS EVENING DUE TO WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MORTON, GRANT, SIOUX, AND EMMONS COUNTIES

  • Critical fire weather conditions are expected in parts of south central North Dakota this afternoon and early evening. Northwest winds will increase to around 25 mph this afternoon, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Relative humidity will fall as low as 20 percent this afternoon as temperatures rise into the lower 90s. Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control.
  • AFFECTED AREA: Morton, Grant, Sioux, and Emmons counties.

  • TIMING: Until 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/ this evening.

  • WINDS: Northwest around 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: As low as 20 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become difficult to control or suppress.
