  • WHAT: Hot conditions with temperatures up to 103 degrees. This will pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related illness.

  • WHERE: Eastern Columbia River Gorge of Oregon and Washington, Lower Columbia Basin of Oregon and Washington, Foothills of the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon, Yakima Valley, and Foothills of the Blue Mountains of Washington.

  • WHEN: Until 9 PM PDT Thursday.

  • IMPACTS: Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Wednesday looks to be the hottest day, with Major HeatRisk across the Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley and portions of the Gorge and Blue Mountain Foothills.

Thursday will also see widespread moderate HeatRisk and locally major HeatRisk, mainly across the Columbia Basin.

Smoke from area wildfires could end up affecting how hot temperatures get.

Instructions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
