  • WHERE: Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania.

  • WHEN: Until 8 PM EDT Saturday.

  • IMPACTS: Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. The prolonged nature of the heat may increase heat stress with time.

Instructions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has declared an Air Quality Advisory for Friday, June 21st for elevated levels of ozone. Pollutants are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range.

The advisory is in effect for the following Michigan counties,

St. Clair,Livingston,Oakland,Macomb,Washtenaw,Wayne and Monroe.

It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with respiratory diseases such as asthma. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which can lead to ozone formation. These activities include: refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment, using charcoal lighter fluid.

Positive activities include: driving less, telecommuting, walking or bike riding, delaying or combining errands, using water-based paints.
