SaferPlaces and meteoblue Partner to Advance Flood Intelligence
The two companies have come together to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: keeping cities safe from flooding in an era of intensifying climate extremes.
The two companies have come together to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: keeping cities safe from flooding in an era of intensifying climate extremes.
In the first part of this guide, we explored how numerical weather prediction models simulate the atmosphere, from observational data and data assimilation to model grids and parameterisation. Modern forecasting goes further by combining global and regional models, ensemble systems and advanced computational techniques to better predict weather and its uncertainty.

Overnight into Tuesday the weather is changing with a mix of clear and cloudy skies and a chance of snow. In the course of day it will clear up until only a few clouds remain. It is a sunny day. There is only a low chance of Precipitation (around 30%). Temperature highs are likely to reach 36 °F. Until noon a gentle breeze is expected (8 to 12 mph). Tuesday afternoon blows a light breeze (4 to 8 mph). From time to time gusts could reach up to 18 mph. Winds blowing at night and in the afternoon from Northwest and in the morning from North. The weather forecast for Jut'a for Tuesday is likely to be accurate.

The location marker is placed on Jut'a. This animation shows the precipitation radar for the selected time range, as well as a 2h forecast. Orange crosses indicate lightning. Data provided by nowcast.de (available in USA, Europe, Australia). Drizzle or light snow fall might be invisible for the radar. Precipitation intensity is colour coded, ranging from turquoise to red.

The real-time satellite image combines visible light during daytime with infrared radiation during nighttime. At night, the image is not dark as infrared radiation can detect temperature differences. Unfortunately, low clouds and fog are difficult to distinguish from ground temperatures and thus can be almost invisible during the night. Meteosat satellite images for Europe are updated in real-time every 5 minutes. GOES-16/GOES-17 (North & South America) and Himawari (Asia) images update every 10 minutes.
Precipitation is estimated from radar and satellites. Precipitation estimates from satellites are less accurate at night than during daytime.
