meteoblue Innovations 2023

Here is a recap of more unique innovations, which we developed in 2023.

The year 2023 is past now, and we are ready to tackle 2024. Before announcing our new developments, we want to look back and summarise the most important innovations which we launched in 2023.

January
The first week of the year 2023 started with a major upgrade of our apps, as we added official weather warnings for more than 100 countries. In case a warning is issued for a selected location, a bubble is displayed on the app’s start screen.
Furthermore, the Scandinavian radar was added to our forecast processing chain, improving the precipitation forecast for this region.

February
In February 2023, a huge update of our product and help pages became available. This overhaul included the introduction of a new structure and design in order to make navigation for our users as easy as possible. Our product and help pages include detailed information about our products, and also some tips and tricks to use our website features.
On those pages, you can also find information about our digital signage product, meteoTV, which was extended by radar and satellite images.

March
In the third month of 2023, we launched our climate risk assessments. These location-specific reports evaluate future climate-related risks such as heat stress, wildfire or flooding for different climate change scenarios. These reports are continuously optimized by adding new datasets, risk indices, etc. to ensure that they meet the regulatory specification of EU Taxonomy and other international reporting standards, making this climate risk reports the leading solution in the compliance industry.
Also in March, another update brought global webcams into our meteoblue apps for Android and iOS. The menu now includes the tab "Webcams", under which you can see webcams for the surroundings of your selected location.

April
In the first quarter of 2023, our website design team improved the look of the website home page by adding round boxes, interactive help and a clean design. These changes became public in April.
Our new website product climate+ opens instant access to climate prediction data from 2021 to 2100. climate+ offers hourly data calculated from 4 different RCP emission scenarios for temperature and precipitation for any location on Earth. These data are essential for assessing concrete climate risks of business-critical applications, such as building management, energy generation, and agricultural production and also for fulfilling regulatory requirements. You can download raw data or analyse them in an interactive interface. Feel free to test climate+ free of charge for Basel.

May
In May, our updated verification pages went live. These pages prove the unique accuracy of our weather data by using several scientific measures. We show the comparisons of our weather simulation data to measurements from more than 10’000 global weather stations, and also show how well we perform relative to our competitors.
Another innovation went live: Our unique urban heat maps show temperatures for more than 80 cities with a resolution of only 10m.

June
For our website customers, we added the option to automatically renew the service of our "plus" products. You can define this in your website account.
In addition, the time range of our history+ interface was extended until 1940, enabling more than 95% of the world’s population to check the weather on their day of birth. You can test history+ with its features (data download, histogram, risk assessments, wind rose) free of charge for Basel.

July
This month, our apps were further enhanced: you can now receive weather warnings for your location of interest by push notifications. Define your location and the severity of the warning, and be always actively informed when a new public weather warning is available.
In addition, the US and Canadian radar forecasts were extended to two hours.

August
Besides celebrating our annual meteoblue day in Konstanz, Germany, we also improved our history+ risk assessments. The update re-arranged the order of the sub-diagrams to have all of them handy, re-designed the overall look to make them easier to understand, extended the time range back to 1940 and gave the option to select the weather model to analyse different data sources and thereby detect possible uncertainties.

September
In September, another major website design upgrade went live, bringing a new design of the hourly data and improved satellite images with a high resolution.

October
Autumn 2023 was packed with events since we participated in major weather expos and conferences such as:
- European Meteorological Society, where we presented our scientific projects in 5 papers and 2 posters, making the broadest scientific contribution from the private sector.
- Met Expo, where we presented our one-stop weather shop for precision weather to the industry and reached more than 1'000 visitors from dozens of countries.
- Extreme Weather Congress, during which extreme weather and climate change developments were discussed and our solutions presented.

November
After several months of work, we launched our updated meteograms and improved forecast data. We re-programmed our weather data calculation algorithms to improve forecast data quality and speed further, plus included additional data sources, resulting in more than 40 different weather models used. With the help of our users, we finalized our meteogram updates and published the new meteogram.

December
We closed the year with 2 new languages on our website: Ukrainian and Croatian. Moreover, our ski weather was re-introduced when the skiing season in the Northern Hemisphere started.

We are already preparing to launch further new products and look forward to serving you in 2024 with high-precision weather and climate information.
