Satelitné snímky zhotovované v reálnom čase využívajú viditeľné svetlo počas dňa a infračervené žiarenie počas noci. Vzhľadom na to, že infračervené žiarenie zisťuje teplotné rozdiely, snímka v noci nie je tmavá. Nízke oblaky a hmlu je, žiaľ, ťažké odlíšiť od prízemných teplôt, preto môžu byť počas noci takmer neviditeľné. Meteosat satelitné snímky pre Európu sú aktualizované v reálnom čase každých 5 minút. Snímky z GOES-16/GOES-17 (Severná a Južná Amerika) a Himawari (Ázia) sú aktualizované každých 10 minút.
Zrážky sa odhadujú z radarov a satelitov. Odhady zrážok zo satelitov sú v noci menej presné ako počas dňa.
