A flood alert has been issued. Groundwater is high, within 50cm of the surface at the East Dean borehole, but slowly falling two centimetres a day. Minor groundwater flood impacts are expected to continue, affecting the ability of the sewage network to operate in East Dean, Charlton, Singleton and West Dean. Water will affect some basements, and be underneath ground floors. Small amounts of water will affect roads, including possibly the B2141 to Chilgrove. Showers are possible Thursday and Friday evenings, with unsettled weather through next week. Generally only minimal flood impacts are expected. However, a lot of rain could affect Sussex Saturday evening, through to midday Sunday 28/04/2024. Groundwater in the villages could rise a couple of centimetres, and may slow in its fall at the Chilgrove borehole. Water will affect roads. Minor flood impacts affecting the sewage network could continue through to mid May. If you have pumps to help reduce groundwater levels in your property, ensure they are operational. A flood alert has been issued. The Aldingbourne and Barnham Rifes remains high. Over the weekend, more than 30mm of rain was recorded at Westergate. Flood water will continue to affect fields near Shripney Lane and the A259, as well as possibly parts of the car park at Tescos on Shripney Road, and land around caravans at Riverside Caravan Centre and Rowan Park Caravan Park. No further rain is forecast for the next two days, but showers are forecast from Wednesday (01/05/2024). The river should begin to slowly fall through Tuesday (30/04/2024), but may rise following rain on Wednesday (01/05/2024). Flood impacts should begin to slowly ease when river levels start to fall. Flood protection products are recommended to be installed in Barnham, if you have them. Some roads may become impassable. Please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding. We are clearing grilles through Barnham, including at the Trading Post, and our pumps at Felpham are running to reduce flood risk. We will update this message by 11:00 on 30/04/2024.
