- Southwest winds will increase across northeastern New Mexico on this afternoon. Gusts of 35 to 45 mph will be commonplace, while humidities drop below 15 percent for the second straight day. While portions of the area, particularly Harding and eastern San Miguel Counties, received wetting rainfall on Friday and Saturday afternoons, these dry conditions will rapidly dry out fine fuels such as grasses. Strong winds and low humidity will redevelop Tuesday across a larger area of eastern NM, bringing the potential for rapid fire spread to areas that received little rainfall from this past Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning,which is in effect from noon to 7 PM MDT Monday. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening.
