At 152 AM AKDT, river gauge reports indicate rises in water levels from rapid snowmelt is occurring, and will cause minor flooding. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially near the Chilkat River.

For Chilkat River at Klukwan: At 1:00am the stage was 125.7 feet. Flood Stage is 126.0 feet. Forecast: A crest around 126.35 feet is expected around 10:00am Sunday. Water levels will go above minor flood stage around 4:00am Sunday.

Precipitation over the coast mountains in conjunction with warming temperatures into the next work week will contribute to an increase in river levels over the far northern inner channels of Southeast Alaska. As shower activity diminished, snow melt will become a more dominant factor. Water levels in the Chilkat River, the Skagway River, and the Taiya River are being monitored closely for indications of river rises. Stay tuned for additional updates.
