The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality is forecasting an Ozone Advisory Day for East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Livingston, Ascension, Iberville, and Pointe Coupee Parishes, .

The Air Quality Index indicates that ozone will be at the Orange level, which is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Increasing ozone levels may cause unhealthy air quality during afternoon hours. Active children and adults, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.

Please take whatever voluntary steps you can to reduce emissions that contribute to ozone formation. Drive less and make sure your automobile is in good working condition. Make sure your gas cap is tight. Wait until after 6 PM to refuel your vehicle and use gas powered lawn equipment.   • WHERE: Portions of southeast Louisiana, including the following parishes, Central Tangipahoa, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Northern Livingston, Northern Tangipahoa, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana and southern Mississippi, including the following counties, Amite, Pike, Walthall and Wilkinson.

  • WHEN: From Thursday evening through Saturday morning.

  • IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

    • Multiple rounds of storms will be moving through the area beginning Thursday night and continuing into Saturday morning. 2 to 4 inches of rainfall with locally higher amounts in excess of 6 inches will be possible, enhancing the flash flooding threat.
