  • A weather pattern conducive for large fire growth will commence today and continue through Wednesday as a broad trough develops over the western United States keeping the flow over New Mexico dry and windy. The strongest winds and critically low relative humidity values today will favor the central mountain chain and northeast highlands westward. Then, relative humidity will plummet over eastern areas as well on Monday. Strong winds on Monday will develop first over eastern areas, then linger longest over eastern areas in the evening as well.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning,which is in effect from 10 AM to 10 PM MDT Monday. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. The Fire Weather Watch for Monday is no longer in effect.

  • AREA AND TIMING: Central Highlands (Zone 125) and eastern plains (Zones 104 and 126) Monday from 10 AM until 10 PM, and Tuesday from 11 AM until 11 PM.

  • 20 FOOT WINDS: For Monday, west 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. For Tuesday, southwest 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY: 7 to 10 percent.

  • IMPACTS: Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended..
