The National Weather Service in Paducah has extended the

  • Flash Flood Warning for, Carter County in southeastern Missouri, Ripley County in southeastern Missouri,

  • Until 945 PM CDT.

  • At 634 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

IMPACT,Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

  • Some locations that will experience flash flooding include, Doniphan, Van Buren, Naylor, Ellsinore, Hunter, Handy, Budapest, Gatewood, Oxly, Fremont, Fairdealing, Grandin and Briar.

For locations that also have a tornado warning issued, seek shelter in an interior room at the lowest level unless absolutely necessary to avoid flooding.

    • Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches occurred this morning, particularly focused across southeast Missouri, western Kentucky, and far southern Illinois. Localized higher amounts up to 5 inches were observed. Another round of very heavy rain is expected with severe thunderstorms through this evening. This likely will lead to additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches, with localized higher amounts possible. This will lead to a heightened flash flooding concern, especially in those areas that already received flooding this morning. Significant flash flooding is possible in some of these locations this evening.
