According to the calendar seasons, spring officially begins today in the northern hemisphere. Regions in the southern hemisphere, on the other hand, are saying goodbye to summer. For many areas of South America, however, this farewell still seems a long way off.
The weather in the United States couldn't be more varied in February. While "atmospheric rivers" have led to heavy rainfall on the west coast of the country in recent weeks, the southern states in particular have been experiencing a heatwave over the last few days. This is now being brought to an abrupt end by the passage of a striking cold front.
Although it is only the beginning of February, the beaches fill up during the day in large parts of the country, especially between Catalonia in north-eastern Spain and southern Andalusia.
